Hundreds gathered at the meditation garden outside the University of Maryland’s Memorial Chapel to reflect on the life of the former Bowie State University student killed on the campus Saturday.

Some undocumented students say they may be less inclined to seek mental health help because of the stigma attached to it in many of their communities.

The children’s book, entitled “What Would You Do? A Book About Bullying,” will be donated to local elementary schools.

Students for Sensible Drug Policy, Our Revolution and Students for Liberty, among other student groups, organized the rally, which featured a tie-dye t-shirt station and acoustic music.

About 550 people participated in the event, the first of its kind at this university.

Mark Ciardi played on this university’s baseball team and completed his business degree in 1983.

Funds will be used to invest in new research and educational programs, and to support people who have lost a loved one to suicide.
