What to watch for Maryland: Everything
There are a lot of questions surrounding the Terrapins this season. Who will step up as the “go-to-guy” with both Anthony Cowan and Jalen Smith no longer on roster? What will the starting lineup be and what will Mark Turgeon’s rotation look like? How have the players progressed from a year ago during an unusual offseason? How will the new additions via the transfer portal and high school impact the team? Not all of these will be able to be answered by one game, but the Terps’ season opener should showcase a lot about this Maryland team.
What to watch for Old Dominion: Three-point shooting
Two seasons ago, the Monarchs made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011, qualifying as conference tournament champions with a 26-9 record. That season, Old Dominion shot a blistering 35.3 percent from behind the arc, led by seniors Ahmad Caver and B.J. Stith. Last season, Old Dominion regressed significantly, shooting just 29.3 percent from deep, limping to a 13-19 finish. If the Monarchs want to return to their 2018-19 form, hitting their three-point shots is a must.
