Maryland football defensive back J.C. Jackson missed Saturday’s 52-13 win over Howard due to an academic issue, and coach DJ Durkin isn’t sure when Jackson, who was slated to start at cornerback alongside Will Likely, is going to return.

“We’re working through with him, and we hope to have him back as soon as possible,” Durkin said in the postgame press conference. “He was out there with us today, and he’s a great member of our team. We care about him a bunch, so we’re working to resolve this as soon as we can.”

A former four-star recruit who began his career at Florida, Jackson was listed as one of Maryland’s starting defensive back according to Maryland’s first depth chart released Monday. After playing at Riverside Community College last season, Jackson would make his Terps debut against the Bison.

That was until about a half hour before the game when the team announced Jackson was dealing with an academic matter and would sit out. Sophomore RaVon Jackson started in his place.
