The Maryland football team added a 10th member to its 2017 recruiting class Thursday night when three-star wide receiver MJ Jarrell from Orlando, Florida, announced his verbal commitment to the program on Twitter.

“I would like to thank my mom, dad, and various family members for being with me throughout this process,” Jarrell posted on social media. “After months of contemplating, with the help of my family I have made a decision. Blessed to say I have committed to the University of Maryland.”

The 6-foot-2 wide receiver from Timber Creek (Fla.) High School is ranked No. 189 at his position, according to 247sports. Jarrell chose coach DJ Durkin’s program over offers from 24 other schools, including former ACC rivals Duke, Virginia Tech and N.C. State.

With Jarrell’s addition, Rivals ranks Maryland’s class at No. 10 in the nation, while 247sports rates it 11th. Both would qualify as the best recruiting finish in program history.

Jarrell is the third receiver in the class, joining three-star wideouts Sean Nelson and Carlos Carriere. The Terps have received a verbal commitment from three-star tight end Andrew Park, too. All four players are at least 6-foot-2.

Jarrell is also the Terps’ third 2017 commit to hail from Florida, where Durkin coached with the Gators for five seasons as an assistant, joining five-star defensive end Joshua Kaindoh and four-star defensive tackle Cam Spence, two IMG Academy products.

Four-star quarterback Kasim Hill, who committed to the Terps in April, congratulated Jarrell on Twitter after his announcement.
