Maryland football offensive lineman Damian Prince announced Wednesday that he’ll forgo the 2018 NFL Draft to return for his redshirt senior year.

Prince joins fellow redshirt senior offensive lineman Derwin Gray in sticking with the program an additional season, fortifying coach DJ Durkin’s offense up front as the team tries to improve upon its disappointing 4-8 record in 2017.

“This was hardest decision I made as a man but, I KNOW the right decision was made,” Prince wrote in a tweet.

Prince was a five-star recruit and Gray was a four-star prospect coming out of high school. Since then, they’ve become staples of Maryland’s offensive line, helping the Terps average at least 4.4 yards per carry in consecutive seasons.

Meanwhile, former four-star lineman Richard Merritt, who barely played in his two years in College Park, announced Tuesday he would transfer to a junior college. With Prince and Gray returning, Merritt’s chances of breaking into a starting role would likely have diminished.
