Good things keep coming to Maryland football after beating a ranked Texas team for the second straight season.

Maryland cornerback Tino Ellis made week one’s Pro Football Focus Team of the Week after his stellar performance at FedEx Field on Saturday.

Ellis was the highest-rated cornerback in the country for the week, earning a 91.9 rating. He was the third-highest rated defensive player in the country in week one, according to PFF. Additionally, he recorded five tackles, including two tackles for a loss. In the 39 plays he was on the field, the receivers he was covering were targeted only seven times.

Of those seven targets, Texas receivers only recorded five receptions for 13 yards and no first downs against Ellis.

He also helped force a crucial fumble late in the fourth quarter, which was part of a sequence where each of Texas’ last three drives ended with a turnover.

A graduate of DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Ellis is the latest Terp to find success as part of the #DMVtoUMD movement that began with Stefon Diggs.
