The University of Maryland’s Elevate Program will transition to Workday, a new cloud-based platform, on Friday to replace this university’s current systems used for handling certain administrative tasks.
The program aims to improve and streamline the user experience for faculty and staff by integrating human resources and finance systems into a single interface through the switch to Workday, according to the Elevate Program’s website.
Workday will replace several outdated systems — some of which date back to the 1990s — including Payroll and Human Resources, eTerp and Kuali Financial System, according to Maryland Today.
Employees at this university, as well as those at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, the office of the University System of Maryland and this university’s environmental science center, will use Workday for managing personal information, viewing pay slips, requesting absences and completing other tasks all on a single system, according to Elevate’s website.

Administrative staff with human resources or finance duties will use the system for recruiting, hiring, compensation and accounting, among other daily tasks.
A series of 24 online courses will teach faculty and staff how to use Workday, and a “hyper care team” of full-time employees will provide support for the new system, The Diamondback previously reported.
The Elevate Program, which has been working to implement Workday since 2021, is tasked with updating and modernizing aging systems to improve user experience for faculty, staff and students, according to its website.
The university’s administrative systems are at the end of their lifespans and need to be replaced, according to the program’s website. The new Workday system will help support the “complex work of a leading research university.”
According to Elevate’s website, Workday’s rollout is part of the program’s larger effort to modernize this university’s administrative systems, including the implementation of Workday Student, which is set to replace this university’s current student information system by fall 2028.
