Cumberland Hall will continue to offer air conditioning to its residents after this academic year, marking a reversal to an April decision to remove air conditioning from individual dorm rooms in summer 2023.

Instead, the dorm will receive new air conditioning units and energy efficient windows, according to a Tuesday email from the resident life department sent to Cumberland Hall residents.

The units will be installed in Cumberland Hall as part of a window replacement project this summer, according to resident life spokesperson Tracy Kiras.

This university’s original plan to remove air conditioning from Cumberland Hall drew ire from residents, who compared proposed changes to other North Campus dorms without air conditioning such as Hagerstown and Ellicott halls. Cumberland Hall, which is located in the Cambridge Community, houses more than 500 students.
