The 94th Academy Awards were held at the Dolby Theatre in California on Sunday, and celebrities showed up on the red carpet wearing some jaw-dropping looks.

As an award-show fanatic, one of my favorite parts about any show is the over-the-top outfits stars wear to the show. This year, Oscars new-comers stunned the audience with their elegant looks, while regular attendees showed professionalism and maturity in their design choices.

Here are some of the top red carpet looks from the evening.

Megan Thee Stallion
Megan Thee Stallion made her Oscars debut in a stunning muted blue dress with a waist cutout and mermaid slit. Her blue and silver jewelry accented the outfit perfectly, and the matching heels tied it all together.

The dress flowed out in waves at the back, which gave the dress an ocean-like appearance. For a first look at the Oscars, she killed it.

Maddie Ziegler
Maddie Ziegler also had a standout debut at the Oscars in a Giambattista Valli gown. Her flowing black dress folded around her silhouette into a bow at her waist. Valli designs gorgeous dresses that are among my favorites because they look like a different dress from every angle.

Photographs taken of Ziegler walking make the dress look more like a loose ballgown compared to the stiff, professional presence the dress gives in straight shots. Her heavy, jewel-focused necklace and accessories create a mature look.

Zendaya
Zendaya played with masculine and feminine looks this year, pairing a long-trailed silver, disco ball floor-length skirt with a cropped button-up silk shirt. She wore simple silver jewelry to add some sophistication to the look. This combination emanates very mature vibes, especially compared to her red carpet looks in previous years.

Wesley Snipes
Monochrome has been one of my favorite trends this past year. Wesley Snipes arrived at the Oscars wearing a monochrome plum suit that instantly caught my attention.

Snipes made the outfit even more unique by pairing his button-down shirt and suit jacket with shorts that had leggings underneath, all in the same plum color. Snipes accessorized the outfit with shiny black high-top sneakers and sunglasses, perfecting a red carpet look made for the California sun.

Maya Rudolph
Maya Rudolph styled a Hollywood classic-turned-modern. In a floor-length bright orange robe lined with ample layers of long, thin feathers, Rudolph turned the old Hollywood-style feathered robe into a gown that looked as comfy as it did elegant. She twisted on the red carpet to show off her flowy look.

Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita Nyong’o’s dress was hands-down the star of the show. In a floor-length gown that looked like it was made of pure gold, Nyong’o’s dress sparkled on the red carpet. The dress, with long sleeves and a low-cut back, was covered in large gold sparkles and longer, rectangular tassel strips toward the bottom.

With all the glitter, this look somehow pulled off sophistication without drawing an inordinate amount of attention. It was also adorned with light pink flowers made with sequins similar to the rest of the dress. This addition made the outfit a perfect balance between elegant and astounding.
