A decision on the location of a new track and field complex will be made within the next 60 days, Maryland track and field coach Andrew Valmon said in an email Wednesday.
The current track and field complex, which coexists with Ludwig Field — the men’s and women’s soccer stadium — is adjacent to Purple Line construction on Fieldhouse Drive and Union Lane cutting through where several field events are held.
“It’s a conversation that [men’s soccer coach] Sasho [Cirovski] and I have often because we share, but we really need our own standalones,” Valmon said during Spring Media Day. “We finally found a location that’s going to be great.”
Maryland track and field is scheduled to host two meets in the 2022 outdoor season. The first — which is also the team’s opening meet of the season — is scheduled for March 19. The Terps are also set to host their final regular season meet on May 6.

In December, the Prince George’s County Parks and Planning board did not move forward with the proposal to build a new track and field complex on the site of the Paint Branch Golf Course, citing displeasure from the community.
Bridget Stesney, Prince George’s County’s park planning and development division chief, said in a statement in December the decision was made after “several months of conversations with residents and community stakeholders.”
Over 500 Paint Branch patrons and College Park residents signed a petition in opposition of the university’s plans for the track and field complex, which would have gone where the course’s driving range currently sits.
Stesney added that groundwork has been laid between the program and the county for future collaboration.
