When the Carolina Panthers played in FedEx Field on Sunday, it became a homecoming for three former Terrapins — Torrey Smith, DJ Moore and Jermaine Carter.

While playing in Landover, those three former Terps also got to face off with another Maryland star in Redskins tight end Vernon Davis, who is in his 13th NFL season.

In the state where they played their college ball, the Terps shined in a game where Washington took down Carolina 23-17.

Davis got the scoring started, catching a 22-yard touchdown pass from Redskins quarterback Alex Smith to give Washington a 7-0 lead.

Davis ended the day as Washington’s leading receiver, catching three passes for 48 yards and that touchdown. It was Davis’ first touchdown reception of the season and the 61st of his career.

On the Carolina side, DJ Moore lost two key fumbles for the Panthers, but recovered with a career-high five receptions for a career-high 59 yards in the game. The 2018 first-round pick now has 11 receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown through five NFL games. He also had an 18-yard run on Sunday, giving Moore 46 rushing yards on four carries this season.

Moore’s fellow Carolina receiver, Torrey Smith also had a big day. Smith caught five balls for 43 yards and touchdown.

The three-yard touchdown reception came with less than nine minutes to play, and Smith also caught the two-point conversion on the next snap to bring the Panthers within three points. It was Smith’s second touchdown reception of the season and the 41st of his eight-year NFL career.

After the game, Maryland football’s Twitter account tweeted a pic of the four former Terps together.
