Senior Night is something most college players only get to experience once, but Terrapins men’s basketball guard Varun Ram is an exception to that rule.

The fan favorite was honored during Maryland’s home finale against Michigan last season, along with six other seniors. He entered near the end of the game and did not attempt a shot. However, he was granted an additional year of eligibility this season after he decided to come back to pursue a master’s degree.

His second Senior Night, Thursday against Illinois, was more memorable.

It got off to a rough start, as Ram’s shot was mercilessly rejected by Illinois’ Jaylon Tate, who holds, oh, just a six-inch height advantage on the Maryland guard.

On the Terps’ next possession, Ram provided the highlight of the night.

With 23 seconds remaining in the game, Ram nailed a three off a pass from fellow senior Trevor Anzmann to send the Xfinity Center crowd into a frenzy.

Thursday’s game belonged to Melo Trimble (finally broke out of his slump) and Jake Layman (became the only player from his class to finish four seasons at Maryland), but Ram was able to steal just a little bit of the spotlight.
