The Terrapins men’s basketball team had just about its lowest scoring first half of the season against Wisconsin on Saturday, but some fireworks at the end of the first half got more attention than the Terps’ cold shooting.
With less than two seconds left before halftime, center Diamond Stone got tangled up with Wisconsin’s Vitto Brown when the two were chasing a ball that went out of bounds, and Stone pushed Brown’s head to the floor as he got up.
Stone received a technical foul for his actions, as did Wisconsin forward Charlie Thomas, who had words for the Terps freshman after the play.
ESPN’s Bob Wischusen relayed a message from the referees at the beginning of the second half, saying, “A determining factor there was the fact that, for Stone, it was an open hand and a shove. If it had been a closed fist and a punch, he would have been ejected.”
