Terrapins women’s basketball assistant coach Bryce McKey, who was hired in April, resigned from the team Friday afternoon. The former Xavier assistant has been accused of sexually abusing an Xavier women’s basketball player.

The alleged incident occurred May 2 after McKey had taken the job with the Terps. Coach Brenda Frese has begun the search for a new assistant coach.

“Bryce McKey has resigned from his position as an assistant coach at the University of Maryland,” Frese said in a statement. “It is best that Bryce tend to his personal matters and step away from coaching at this time.”

McKey’s attorney entered a not guilty plea Friday morning and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for Sept 8., according to the Associated Press.

The alleged incident took place at his home in Covington, Kentucky. According to the complaint, McKey touched the accuser’s buttocks twice without her permission inside his house after he had inappropriately touched her leg on the way to pick up food.
