Prince George's County residents, landlords and legislators expressed mixed feelings regarding the new law.
Properties such as under-leased commercial properties, vacant housing, abandoned buildings and unused lots would be included in the tax increase.
The proposed bill would look to promote growth in county-defined transit hubs by placing a two-year pause on townhome development in areas that are not as transit-oriented.
The development will replace the parking lot next to The Hotel.
