My horrible addiction began on a sunny day during my freshman year. I used to try fighting it off, but I can’t stop my urge to jump on the computer and shop my life away. Now, I embrace my love for online shopping. It helps me keep my sanity during those difficult weeks when there’s nothing to look forward to but a package full of trendy new clothes. It’s like I sent a gift to myself.
These aren’t the confessions of a teenage shopaholic — just some insight from a teenage shopaholic. I want to help you keep your wardrobe up to date in the midst of busy semester.
Online shopping is an efficient, fun and easy way to shop. Start with your favorite store since you’ll know how the clothes fit you and what items you like to buy. For example, you may love the fit of American Eagle jeans.
Online shopping can also be very affordable. Coupon codes that are often available online cannot be used in stores — one of my favorite places to find codes is RetailMeNot. I save $10 or more almost every time I make a purchase with the help of coupon codes.
Despite the perks of online shopping, there are some rules you should keep in mind.
Try not to buy on impulse:
Buy what you absolutely love and feel you need for college. Just like any delicious treat, online shopping is great but overindulgence is not healthy.
Be a healthy online shopper:
Do not online shop every day. It is fine to use online shopping as an escape but sometimes an hour or so could lead to three hours and then your attempt to take a break from studying has transformed into a distraction.
I hope these tips help as you venture into the virtual shopping mall. Just beware—addiction rates may apply.
