Maryland women’s basketball moved up two spots to No. 7 in the AP poll, released on Nov. 24. It matches the Terps’ highest ranking since last season.

The Terps (7-0) have won every nonconference game by at least 17 points. Maryland started the season ranked No. 10 and moved up to No. 9 on Nov. 10, holding the spot for two weeks.

The Terps are fifth in scoring in the Big Ten, averaging 86.1 points per game. Junior guard Oluchi Okananwa leads the team with 15.7 points per game, though the roster’s depth has been a leading strength. Coach Brenda Frese has played at least 11 players in every matchup except Princeton — including freshmen like 18-year-old Addi Mack, the team’s second-leading scorer.

The guard-heavy team is versatile across the court. Their top defenders are also their best shooters. Four of the starting five lead the team in rebounds and points.

This week, Maryland travels to Carolina, Puerto Rico, for the Discover Puerto Rico Classic tournament. The Terps face No. 16 Kentucky Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and unranked Hofstra on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, at 3 p.m. The matchup with the Wildcats should provide the first real test for a largely retooled roster.
