University of Maryland graduate students can vote from May 1 until May 7 for the GSG’s 2025-26 president, according to an email sent Thursday from the graduate school.

All graduate students are able to vote for presidential candidates. Click here to access the 2025 election ballot.

The new Graduate Student Government president’s term will begin July 1.

According to the organization’s website, the GSG president’s responsibilities will include:

  • Appointing any non-elected officials to the organization’s executive board.
  • Recommending graduate students to appoint to or remove from university-wide councils, committees and boards.
  • Signing or vetoing all legislation passed by the GSG’s general assembly within 10 business days. 
  • Representing the organization on various university councils, committees, boards and task forces.
  • Investigating university policies and programs that affect graduate students and their academic and professional development.
  • Working with this university’s student affairs office, the graduate school, the provost’s office and university president Darryll Pines to discuss and provide feedback on academic and student life policies that affect graduate students.
  • Ensuring the GSG remains active at the university system, state and national levels to keep the organization informed of and involved in graduate students’ advocacy efforts.

The GSG will also elect candidates for two vice presidential positions during its general assembly meeting on May 9, according to the email from the graduate school.

The voting period for program representatives is set to open in about a week, but a specific date has not been finalized, according to the email.
