Maryland women’s basketball’s transfer portal changes have begun as coach Brenda Frese retools her roster for next season.

The Terps need to replace guards Shyanne Sellers and Sarah Te-Biasu and add a true center, something they missed throughout Big Ten play.

Check in periodically throughout the offseason for each Maryland transfer portal update.

Departing players:

Guard and forward Emily Fisher

Fisher announced on X Tuesday that she entered her name into the transfer portal

The sophomore played sparingly during her second season with Maryland, appearing in 19 games off the bench. She missed 11 games midway through the campaign with a concussion.

Fisher averaged 1.7 points per game and 1.4 rebounds an outing.

Incoming transfers:

Penn State center Gracie Merkle

Merkle committed to Maryland, she announced on her Instagram Saturday.

Merkle, a 6-foot-6 center, averaged 15.5 points and 8.6 rebounds a game for the Nittany Lions. The redshirt sophomore spent one year at Bellarmine before starting 26 games for Penn State last season. She scored 24 points and collected seven rebounds against the Terps in January.

Merkle was Penn State’s primary scorer during the 2024-25 season, notching at least 20 points in 10 games, and recording 13 double doubles. She led the Nittany Lions in rebounds, averaging four more than the second-highest player.

Maryland lacked a true big throughout its recent campaign, which was apparent against notable UCLA center Lauren Betts and Nebraska center Alexis Markowski. Merkle is set to be the tallest rostered player for the Terps next season, pending other additions.

Indiana guard Yarden Garzon

Garzon’s commitment to Maryland was announced Monday morning, according to On3.

The junior has familiarity with the Big Ten, spending her first three seasons as a full-time starter at Indiana. She helped lead the Hoosiers to three straight NCAA tournament appearances.

Garzon’s transfer will help ease the Terps’ transition away from All-Big Ten guard Sellers. The senior was one of the best shooters from deep in the conference last season, nailing nearly 41 percent of her three point attempts.

Garzon has an almost 43 percent career mark from deep and holds the Indiana program record with 220 makes.

Garzon was an All-Big Ten second team selection in the 2024-25 season, a campaign where she totaled a team-high average of 14.4 points and second-highest average of 5.4 rebounds a game. She comes to Maryland with plenty of experience in one of the best conferences in women’s college basketball, but the Terps will likely still be looking for another guard to complement her next season.
