University of Maryland students will be able to vote in the 2025 SGA election from Tuesday at 9 a.m. through Thursday at 5 p.m.
Here’s more information on how to vote, why to vote and who is running in this year’s election.
How to vote
Students can vote by following instructions on the Student Government Association’s website, or by clicking here.
Why should you vote?
Voting in the election allows students to provide input on multiple referendum questions, as well as who they want to represent them.
Who is running?
The four tickets in this year’s election are:
- StriveUMD
- Our College Park
- JusticeUMD
- The BSOS Effect
StriveUMD has candidates running across executive and legislative positions. Presidential candidate Graham Firosz, a sophomore computer engineering and public policy major and one of the SGA’s current engineering representatives, headlines the ticket.
Some of the ticket’s main focuses are student engagement, SGA election reform and protecting student rights.
Our College Park is also fielding candidates for both executive and legislative positions. Dhruvak Mirani, a junior computer science and government and politics major, is the ticket’s presidential candidate. Mirani currently serves on the University System of Maryland’s Board of Regents as a student representative.
The ticket is committed to student safety, improving this university’s transportation and infrastructure, reforming student organization funding and promoting sustainability.

JusticeUMD has executive and legislative candidates running, but does not have a presidential candidate on the ballot. JusticeUMD is demanding that this university and the University System of Maryland are transparent about their investments and that they divest from companies “committing or profiting off of human rights violations globally.” The ticket is also focused on protecting student rights and championing a more inclusive campus.
The BSOS Effect ticket is made up of two candidates — Isha Rajani and Leonard Fomin — both of whom are running as incumbent behavioral and social sciences representatives. The ticket is devoted to addressing the academic, engagement and service concerns of the student body with initiatives such as creating more major-specific student groups, advocating for standardized GPA practices and modernizing study spaces around campus.

Students will also have the opportunity to vote on two different referendums on this year’s ballot.
The first question asks students whether they support the implementation of a mandatory University Health Center fee starting in the 2027 fiscal year.
The second question asks students whether they support the University System of Maryland Foundation and the University of Maryland College Park Foundation divesting from certain defense, military and security companies.
Here is a closer look at the two questions on the ballot. More information about the referendums can be found on the SGA’s website.
