The University of Maryland is closed on Wednesday due to inclement weather, according to a university alert Tuesday night.

In-person classes are canceled, the alert read, and only weather-essential employees are expected to report to work.

All three dining halls will remain open until 9 p.m., according to Dining Services’ website.

South Campus Dining Hall and 251 North opened at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to Dining Services’ website. Yahentamitsi Dining Hall opened at 7 a.m., the website read.

Staff members are discussing closing times for dining halls, according to Dining Services spokesperson Bart Hipple.

South Campus Market and North Campus Market will remain open until 9 p.m.

Snow began to fall in College Park early Tuesday afternoon and multiple inches of snow had accumulated by the evening. The city is under a Winter Storm Warning until 7 a.m. Wednesday, according to The Weather Channel.

Faculty and instructors will communicate any instructions for participating in class virtually or asynchronously with their students, this university’s website read.

Dining halls will operate on an abbreviated schedule Wednesday, according to this university’s Dining Services website. Yahentamitsi Dining Hall and South Campus Dining Hall will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 251 North will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

South Campus Market and North Campus Market are scheduled to be open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., and all other dining locations will be closed. Dining Services may be able to be open for more hours than its minimum schedule, according to the website.

Parking on campus is unrestricted on Wednesday, according to this university’s Department of Transportation Services website. Anyone can park their vehicle for free in any campus garage parking space to aid in snow removal from other lots, but are advised against parking on garage roofs, the website read.

Parking restrictions will resume at 7 a.m. on Thursday or when the university reopens, according to the website.

There is no Shuttle-UM service or NITE Ride and Paratransit services Wednesday, the website read.
