An anonymous donor pledged to give $10 million to the University of Maryland’s athletic department and the Terrapin Club, a university athletics booster club, athletic director Damon Evans announced Monday.

The donation will support the Maryland men’s basketball team through a program-support endowment, according to a university news release.

“Investments in our programs like basketball not only strengthen the future of Terrapin Athletics but also foster a lasting legacy of excellence and achievement for generations to come,” Evans wrote in the news release.

This contribution comes after Stephen Schanwald, a former Chicago Bulls executive vice president of business operations, committed to an $18 million donation to the university in December. $10 million of that donation was given to the athletic department.

The anonymous gift and Schanwald’s contribution are tied as the third largest donations in university athletics history, according to the news release.
