2024 was a demanding but formative year for The Diamondback’s photo desk. Our photographers covered topics such as November’s general election in College Park and Prince George’s County, student reactions to Israel’s war in Gaza, ongoing Purple Line construction and intense moments for Maryland athletics.

This year was marked by one of our desk’s highest outputs of collaborative and independent stories, including photo essays covering the 2024 solar eclipse, the Mighty Sound of Maryland, Maryland football’s loss against Penn State and the behind the scenes of Yahentamitsi Dining Hall.

We have focused on the integrity and quality of our coverage this year. Our photographers consistently overcame challenges and proved themselves to be transparent and professional.

Our audience sees less than a percent of the thousands of photos the desk produces. This year in review aims to showcase both published work and images that would otherwise remain unseen.

We are proud to present our edition of The Diamondback’s Year in Pictures.
