United States president-elect Donald Trump selected University of Maryland alum Susie Wiles as his White House chief of staff on Thursday.
Wiles served as Trump’s campaign advisor throughout his 2024 presidential run. She will be the first female White House chief of staff in U.S. history.
The announcement comes after Trump defeated Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in Tuesday’s presidential election.
“[Wiles] is tough, smart, innovating, and is universally admired and respected,” Trump said in a statement Thursday. “I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.”

The New Jersey native graduated from this university with an English degree, according to her LinkedIn.
Wiles has aided many Republican campaigns in her career as a political consultant and campaign manager. She played a key role in Florida Sen. Rick Scott’s (R) 2010 U.S. Senate victory and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.’s (R) 2012 presidential bid, the Florida Times-Union reported.
Wiles also served as a senior advisor for Trump’s 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns. In 2021, she became the CEO of the Save America Leadership PAC, which fundraises for Trump.
Trump will be inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2025.
