Indiana’s Madi Sell spiked the ball over the net for a kill, putting the Hoosiers at match point. Maryland volleyball called a timeout. The Terps had rallied their way back in the third set, looking to avoid another defeat.
Maryland received the Indiana serve cleanly in the final rally. Eva Rohrbach attempted the kill. The Hoosiers’ defense regained control and sent the ball back to Terps’ possession.
Csire’s kill spiked the ball into the net. Indiana won the third set for a sweep victory over Maryland, at the Xfinity Center Pavilion Saturday night. The Terps finished the match with a meager .116 hitting percentage in their eighth straight loss.
The Terps (10-13, 1-11 Big Ten) and the Hoosiers (12-10, 5-7 Big Ten) both had trouble keeping their serves in the lines, combining for nine service errors in the first set. Maryland’s returns struggled also — it committed four errors. A timeout didn’t immediately help.
But the Terps eventually strung together successful points. Graduate students Samantha Schnitta and Anastasia Russ blocked a kill try from Indiana outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles, pushing the Hoosiers to call a timeout.

Both sides struggled with efficient hitting in the opening set. Maryland hit .036 while Indiana ended at .000. The Terps’ own woes cost them.
On set point, Maryland couldn’t control a kill from Hoosiers’ outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles. Indiana won the first set 25-21.
The Terps got off to a strong start in the second set, just like they did in the first. A Schnitta kill gave them their fifth point — their kills leader added a team-high nine to her season total on Saturday.
The Hoosiers’ hitting drastically improved in the second set, posting a percentage of .412. Maryland combated just two fewer attack attempts, but couldn’t overcome the strong play. Indiana subbed out half of its lineup after Alonso-Corcelles and Sell combined for a block assist to extend its second set lead to 20-16.
The Hoosiers had set point after an Avry Tatum kill. Mady Saris added another kill shortly after to claim a 25-22 set win.

The third set was a back-and-forth affair. It included 15 ties and five lead changes.
Dowler put up a huge block against the Hoosiers for the Terps 15th point, evening the score for the first time since holding a two-point lead early in the opening set. Maryland finally found a 20-19 lead off a Schnitta kill.
The Terps and Hoosiers went back and forth exchanging points in the third, taking a timeout while even at 22. Sell gave Indiana match point at 24-23 with a spike over the net for a kill. The Hoosiers then won the set for the sweep.
Maryland struggled with kills throughout the matchup, finishing with nine less than Indiana. It suffered in every set as a result.
