Maryland athletic director Damon Evans received a two-year contract extension that will keep him in College Park through June 2029, the university announced Monday.
He was previously under contract through 2027, as he signed an extension in January 2022 that was not announced at the time. Evans’ new contract comes with a raise. His base salary will increase from $725,000 to $1 million, while his annual supplemental income will increase from $120,000 to $280,000, according to ESPN.
“Maryland Athletics has experienced tremendous success under the leadership of Damon Evans,” university president Darryll Pines said in a statement. “In a transformative time in the collegiate landscape, Damon has proved to be an extremely effective leader in guiding our athletic department to championship heights, both on and off the playing fields.”

Evans has been Maryland’s athletic director since 2018. The Terps have won 49 Big Ten championships and tournament titles in his tenure, the third-most in the conference in that span.
Maryland has also won three NCAA championships with Evans as athletic director. He hired football coach Michael Locksley in 2018 and men’s basketball coach Kevin Willard in 2022.
The Terps have also had several facility renovations under Evans, including football’s Jones-Hill House and the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. Current projects include building practice facilities for Maryland’s baseball, men’s basketball and women’s basketball teams.
“It is an honor to serve as the Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics at the University of Maryland,” Evans said in a statement. “It is my privilege to represent this world-class university and athletic department as we lead boldly, provide a student-centered environment, and inspire pride throughout all of Terp Nation.”
