Virginia transfer Mir McLean has committed to Maryland women’s basketball, she announced on Instagram Friday. McLean’s addition fills the Terps’ final roster spot for the 2024-25 season.
McLean played for Virginia for the last two seasons after spending her freshman year at UConn. She hasn’t played since suffering a knee injury in January 2023.
McLean played 15 games for the Cavaliers in the 2022-23 season, averaging 12.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

The Baltimore Native was the 2020 Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year and a three-time Baltimore Sun first team all-metro. She will reunite with former UConn teammate and fellow Maryland native Saylor Poffenbarger in College Park, who transferred in from Arkansas.
While she hasn’t played more than 15 games since her freshman year, the 5-foot-11 guard/forward proved that she can rebound and score in the paint even when her opponents have the size advantage.
McLean is the sixth player to transfer into Maryland this offseason. The Terps had four players transfer out, and three players graduate, but quickly rebuilt for next season with a strong transfer portal haul.
