The Panera Bread at Stamp Student Union will open May 1 after more than a year of delays, according to Stamp dining assistant director Dan Robertson.

Panera, which was originally scheduled to open in fall 2022, will be in the space previously occupied by Adele’s restaurant on Stamp’s first floor. Adele’s closed in 2018 and no restaurant has opened in the space since. Panera will not have a “soft opening” as initially planned, according to Robertson.

Panera’s opening saw multiple delays due to challenges with equipment sourcing, permits and other operational issues, The Diamondback previously reported.

The Diamondback previously reported that construction delays stemmed, in part, from difficulties in obtaining specific equipment, such as large ovens, after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fast-casual restaurant is known for its easy-to-grab items such as sandwiches, soups and salads.

University of Maryland students will be able to use Dining Dollars or their Terrapin Express accounts to pay for items.
