Freshman guard Jahnathan Lamothe entered the transfer portal Friday, he announced on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Baltimore native had little playing time in his freshman season, seeing action in 16 contests and averaging less than one point per game.
Lamothe was a part of coach Kevin Willard’s first full recruiting class, which was ranked No. 19 in the nation, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. Willard keyed in on local talent in the class, with three of its four commits from the DC-Maryland-Virginia region.
The other two, Virginia natives DeShawn Harris-Smith and Jamie Kaiser Jr., were both fixtures in Willard’s rotation.

Lamothe’s best game of his freshman season came on his birthday, Dec. 12, 2023. He scored 10 points in a blowout win over Alcorn State, but it was the freshman’s only game with a completed field goal.
The now-former Terp guard attended St. Frances Academy and was high school teammates with Julian Reese and incoming five-star Derik Queen before the latter transferred to Montverde Academy.
Lamothe is the third player on Willard’s roster to enter the transfer portal, joining Noah Batchelor and Caelum Swanton-Rodger.
