Maryland women’s basketball Saturday matchup against Purdue was postponed due to a leak in the Xfinity Center roof. Maryland athletic director Damon Evans said the two teams will try to announce the rescheduled game’s date in the next 48 hours.
The Terps play at Michigan State on Jan. 9 and Purdue hosts Iowa on Jan. 10 but both teams have eight-day breaks in their schedule afterward.
The game, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET, was initially delayed for 30 minutes as officials deliberated with Maryland athletic director Damon Evans, Terps head coach Brenda Frese and Purdue head coach Katie Gearlds.

“We had our engineers go up top to try and divert the water,” Evans said on Big Ten Network. “But player safe is first. Water is still leaking on the court and that’s not a risk we want to take.”
Evans said that the athletic department attempted to redirect the water away from the floor, but was unsuccessful. The Maryland area experienced heavy rain throughout the day and at the scheduled time of tipoff.
Maryland has an auxiliary gym in The Pavilion which could have been used as an option to play the game, but Gearlds felt uncomfortable playing in that gym, Evans said.
