A University of Maryland shuttle bus struck a pedestrian in front of Wicomico Hall Tuesday morning, according to the Prince George’s County Fire Department.
The Prince George’s County Fire Department responded at 11:05 a.m., said fire department spokesperson Mike Yourishin. The pedestrian, a 21-year-old female student, was transported to a local trauma center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
A preliminary UMPD investigation revealed that the shuttle bus was traveling southbound on Preinkert Drive towards Carroll Hall through a crosswalk in front of Wicomico Hall. The pedestrian did not stop before entering the crosswalk and then came into contact with the bus, according to UMPD spokesperson Lt. Rosanne Hoaas.
The pedestrian was alert and conscious when police arrived on scene, Hoaas said.
The University of Maryland Police Department is handling the investigation.
