Candidates from two parties launched campaigns Monday ahead of this month’s University of Maryland SGA elections.
The United Maryland and Aspire Maryland parties will vye for student votes from April 24-26.
United Maryland’s ticket lists 28 candidates. Alexandra DeBus, a junior biochemistry major who is the SGA’s current vice president, is United Maryland’s candidate for student body president.
There are 45 candidates listed on Aspire Maryland’s ticket. Scott Cronin, RHA’s current president, is the party’s candidate for student body president. Cronin, a junior government and politics major, also currently serves as the SGA’s director of civic engagement.
Both parties plan to focus on major issues such as sexual misconduct prevention, sustainability and transportation.
United Maryland hopes to revamp the student group funding and allocation process so groups on campus have an easier time securing funding.
Aspire Maryland has a similar goal and hopes to streamline the student funding and allocation process for student groups applying.
