A gas line in the intersection between Lakeland Road and Route 1 was damaged Thursday morning due to a water main break, according to a UMD Alert.
A six inch water main was struck by excavators who were working along Route 1 and Lakeland Road, Andre Francis, the Washington Gas strategic communications director, said Thursday in an email.
Washington Gas crews responded to the site to repair the damaged pipe.
Authorities closed access for cars and pedestrians to Route 1 between Campus Drive and Melbourne Place Thursday morning before adjusting the closure to the street between Campus Drive and Berwyn House Road.
According to a 5 p.m. UMD Alert, work crews were still on site addressing the issue. Parts of Route 1 are still closed to cars and pedestrians.
There have been no disruptions to gas and electric service during the incident, Francis said.
