Last year, following the killing of George Floyd and the subsequent protests that exploded across the country, University of Maryland President Dr. Darryll Pines asked a group of five Black student leaders to curate a list of issues they wanted the university to address. Ultimately, the students came up with 25 demands, which the school published on its website in November.

Over the summer, UMD BLK Grads for BLK Lives, a collective of Black graduate students at this school, sent its own list of demands to the university in a letter signed by more than 200 people.
