A UMD alert sent out Monday afternoon said Prince George’s County Police responded to a report of an armed carjacking Monday morning at the intersection of Adelphi Road and Campus Drive. A later notice from University Police determined the incident was “unfounded.”

At about 4:20 on Monday morning, a male was struck from behind by another driver, according to the alert. After the male approached the suspect to exchange contact information, the suspect came toward the male with a knife, demanding he give his property and keys, the alert read.

The alert about the reported carjacking was sent about 1:40 p.m. At 6:27 p.m., University Police published a safety notice on its site calling the incident “unfounded.”

The victim handed over his things, and the suspect entered the male’s vehicle and drove off on Adelphi Road toward East-West Highway, according to the alert.

Police say this is the only recent reported incident of an armed carjacking. County police are currently investigating.
