Prince George’s County Police arrested a man Sunday evening in College Park after he allegedly showed a handgun inside a business on Route 1, according to a police spokesperson.
At about 5:50 p.m. Sunday, county police, along with University of Maryland Police and College Park contract police, responded to a report of an armed person inside a commercial establishment in the 7300 block of Baltimore Avenue.
A patron inside the establishment had spilled a drink on the male suspect, who responded by showing a handgun on his waist and placing his hand on it, said county police spokesperson Jennifer Donelan. Then, someone dialed 911.
Using surveillance video, police were able to identify the group of four males that included the suspect, Donelan said. The group was located walking south along Route 1.
A video posted Sunday on the University of Maryland subreddit, r/umd, showed county police and University Police with their guns drawn and four people handcuffed on the ground.
Donelan said a handgun was recovered from one man and a magazine was recovered from another man.
