A University of Maryland student got his car stuck on a staircase near Van Munching Hall and Mowatt Lane Garage on Sunday afternoon after attempting to drive down the set of stairs.

The driver of the black sedan had thought he could drive over the stairs “without any issue,” University Police wrote in an email.

A tow truck removed the vehicle from the stairs, and the student drove it away from the scene, police wrote.

The car “sustained superficial damage,” police wrote, and no injuries were reported by the driver.

The staircase was damaged and “will remain closed until the necessary repairs are made,” said university spokesperson Katie Lawson in a statement.
