With last week’s wins over No. 16 Colgate and Navy, Maryland men’s lacrosse (5-0) moved up one spot in the Inside Lacrosse media poll to the No. 2 spot following Penn State’s 14-13 defeat at the hands of Yale.
The Terps began the season as the No. 3 team in the country and remained in that spot until Monday. In the last two weekly polls, Maryland had a chance to move into the second spot with teams in front of them falling, but the No. 4 team jumped them instead.

Following consecutive one-goal victories over Richmond and Penn, which likely prevented advancement in the poll the last two weeks, Maryland won decisively over their two Patriot League opponents last week with results of 11-6 over Colgate and 14-9 against Navy, which received votes in Monday’s poll.
Now slotted in the No. 2 spot behind in-state Loyola, Maryland will look to remain undefeated when they face No. 17 Notre Dame on the road Sunday. The Fighting Irish, previously ranked eighth, are coming off a 9-8 loss to Richmond.
Of the six Big Ten teams, three others join Maryland inside the top 20 this week. Penn State dropped to No. 5 after suffering their first loss of the season. Ohio State, which sits at 4-0, moved up one spot to No. 9. Meanwhile, Johns Hopkins moved back into the rankings at No. 18 with an 11-10 win over then-No. 14 North Carolina.
