After a week that included a sweep of the Maine Black Bears, Maryland baseball’s Maxwell Costes was named Big Ten player and freshman of the week. Costes become the first Terrapin to win Big Ten player of the week this season, and the first to win Big Ten freshman of the week since Tyler Blohm in March 2017.
In three games, Costes reached base eight times, with four of those being hits. He also drove in six runs and scored two runs himself. Costes became the first Maryland freshman to have four RBIs in a single game since his brother, Marty Costes, in 2016.
Costes drove in four runs in the Terps 9-6 win over Maine on Sunday. That win helped Maryland secure the home-opening sweep over the Black Bears and improve to 4-2 on the year. Costes’ third and fourth RBIs of the game both came from this single.
