Former Maryland star DJ Moore did not catch a pass in his NFL debut, but he came through with his first reception in Week 2, and it was a big one.

The Panthers wide receiver caught a pass from quarterback Cam Newton in the middle of the field, slipped past a couple of defenders and took off for a 51-yard touchdown, bringing Carolina within seven points of the Falcons with 2:20 left on the clock.

The long grab was also the first career touchdown for Moore, who was selected by the Panthers with the 24th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Moore had 17 receiving touchdowns while playing at Maryland from 2015 to 2017. He caught 80 passes for 1,033 yards and eight touchdowns in 2017 for the Terps.

The former Terp also rushed for seven yards on Sunday, but the touchdown was his only catch. Despite fellow Terp Torrey Smith also picking up a score, the Panthers fell to the Falcons, 31-24.
