The Maryland football team earned the first four-star commit of its 2019 recruiting class Thursday when cornerback Tayvion Land committed to the Terps via Twitter.

Land, who attends Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, joins four three-star commits in coach DJ Durkin’s 2019 class. Land is ranked the No. 8 player in Virginia and No. 25 cornerback in the country, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Land chose the Terps over offers from a host of SEC schools and other Power Five conferences.

“After a long talk with my parents, I’ve decided to end this recruiting process early, so I can focus on my upcoming senior year,” Land said in his commitment via Twitter.

At 5-foot-8, 166-pounds, Land views himself as a future nickleback, he told 247Sports. He is the second cornerback in the 2019 class, joining Lavonte Gater, who committed in February.

The commitment brings Maryland’s 2019 recruiting class up to No. 38 in the 247Sports rankings.
