Maryland women’s lacrosse midfielder Jen Giles was named the Co-Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after her four-goal performance against Northwestern.
Giles helped the Terps to their fourth consecutive Big Ten regular season championship with a 20-16 win over the Wildcats.
The junior’s four goals tied her with attacker Megan Whittle for the most in the game. Giles also tallied two assists for a game-high six points and collected two ground balls.
This is the first time this season the Ellicott City native has been recognized by the Big Ten, though she ranks third on the team with 40 goals and first in assists with 21.
Giles shares the weekly award with Michigan midfielder Molly Garrett, who also had four goals and two assists in the Wolverines’ win over Penn State.
Giles will be a key part of Maryland’s offense as it enters this weekend’s Big Ten tournament in Ann Arbor, Michigan, searching for its third Big Ten tournament championship.
