Coming off the first Big Ten tournament loss in school history, Maryland is projected to get a 4 or 5 seed according to Charlie Creme of ESPN. This is a lower seed compared to the past few seasons for the Terps, who are sitting at 25-7 and lost four of their past seven games.
It’s been the worst season for Maryland since joining the Big Ten, racking up four conference losses and losing the Big Ten championship. Despite not bringing home any hardware, the Terps still have their eyes set on the biggest prize. Afer a trip to the Final Four in 2015, Maryland has had disappointing endings the last two seasons, getting upset in the second round and Sweet Sixteen.
Although the Terps have seven losses, their strength of schedule is among the top in the nation, with non-conference matchups against Connecticut and South Carolina. These two teams, who are the only squads to win an NCAA title over the past five seasons, are projected to be 1 and 2 seeds, respectively.
