Maryland men’s basketball forward Bruno Fernando was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday for the second time this season.
Fernando averaged 19.5 points on 74 percent shooting, 12.5 rebounds, three assists and 1.5 blocks in two games this past week.
The Angolan tied a career-high 21 points along with nine rebounds and a career-high five assists in the Terps’ loss at Nebraska on Feb. 13. The 6-foot-10, 245-pound forward then posted 18 points on 8-for-9 shooting and a career-high 16 rebounds in Maryland’s 61-51 win over Rutgers on Saturday.

Against Rutgers, Fernando dunked over guard Corey Sanders, which made ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10 Plays.
Fernando, who averages 6.6 rebounds per game, has led coach Mark Turgeon’s squad in rebounding since forward Justin Jackson’s season-ending torn labrum.
Fernando also earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Jan. 8.
