Maryland baseball second baseman Nick Dunn earned preseason third-team All-American recognition from Baseball America on Monday.
It’s the second preseason honor for the junior, who was also named a preseason third-team All-American by Perfect Game earlier in January.
Dunn, a Sunbury, Pennsylvania, native, has started all 118 games in his first two seasons in College Park, largely alongside former Terps shortstop Kevin Smith, who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays.
This upcoming season, which begins with a series against Tennessee on Feb. 16, will see the Terps with a new middle infield combination. Junior AJ Lee might shift over from third base after seeing time at shortstop during the summer season with the Baltimore Redbirds.
As a freshman, Dunn led the squad with a .300 batting average and pieced together a 15-game hitting streak. He made the Big Ten All-Freshman team that year as well as being named a CBN/Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American.
Dunn hit .261 with 13 doubles as a sophomore. He also launched a career-high five home runs while continuing a tendency of plate discipline, walking 28 times while racking up just 23 strikeouts.
Dunn assisted the Brewster Whitecaps en route to a Cape Cod League title this past summer, winning playoff co-MVP after hitting .306 while driving in seven runners.
