What to watch for Maryland: Foul Trouble
Michal Cekovsky and Bruno Fernando combined for nine fouls (Ceko fouled out) in Maryland’s last matchup against Sparty. While the Terps hung close with Michigan State in the first half, ultimately foul trouble caused a thin roster to be even thinner and Tom Izzo’s club was able to expose Turgeon’s team. Nick Ward and Miles Bridges are the ones who will attack the lane, and they combining to go 9-for-12 from the stripe on Jan. 4.
Who to watch for Michigan State: Miles Bridges
Bridges came into the season as a favorite to win Big Ten Player of the Year and has not disappointed. The sophomore is averaging 18 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest and although his transition to small forward has not always been smooth, Bridges is continuing to put up big numbers alongside superstars Nick Ward (14 ppg) and Jaren Jackson, Jr. (11.8 ppg).
