Maryland football offensive coordinator Walt Bell is expected to become Florida State’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, according to a report from Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel that was later backed by Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman.
Bell has led the Terps’ offense since 2016, using an up-tempo attack and trick plays to average more than 320 yards per game in back-to-back seasons despite injuries to multiple key players. He also brought a quirky personality the team embraced over the past two campaigns.
Health problems forced Maryland to start four different quarterbacks last year, leading to a disappointing 4-8 record. Even so, Bell, 33, remains one of the highest-regarded young coaches in the nation.
Maryland’s offense will lose top wide receiver DJ Moore to the 2018 NFL Draft, but it’ll return redshirt senior offensive linemen Derwin Gray and Damian Prince after the pair elected to stay in College Park an extra season. Leading rusher Ty Johnson has not yet announced whether he’ll enter this year’s draft.
