After the Maryland gymnastics team finished third in the Little Boston Invitational last weekend, the squad failed to finish strong in the Minnesota Quad Meet.
The Terps placed second with a score of 194.025, behind Minnesota (194.200), but ahead of Northern Illinois (193.575) and Winona State (184.750).
Though Maryland kept close with Minnesota during the vault and floor rotations, it fell behind the Golden Gophers during bars and beam.
Freshman Audrey Barber and sophomore Kirsten Peterman dropped crucial points down the stretch, as Barber scored a team-low 9.575 in bars and Peterman scored 8.900 in beam.
Barber and sophomore Morgan Bixler led the way in vault with scores of 9.775. Freshman Karrie Thomas received the best individual score for the Terps during the floor rotation with a score of 9.800.
The underclassmen posted impressive scores late, nearly guiding the Terps to their first meet win of the season. All around, Barber scored 38.825 — the Terps’ highest individual score.
But while Maryland began its first rotation with vault with a strong finish, it could not maintain its stamina throughout the entire meet.
Overall the Terps scored the lowest during the floor rotation, with a score of 48.275, while Minnesota scored 47.700. Still, it was the only category the Terps displayed better execution than Minnesota.
The Terps will compete in their first home meet on Friday at the Xfinity Center against Penn State.
