What to watch for the Terps: Stepping up to the challenge
Since the inception of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge in 2007 — when Maryland was still a member of the ACC — the Terps have dominated the competition. Brenda Frese’s team is 9-1 all time in the event, with its only loss coming to No. 2 Notre Dame in 2014. And this may be the most lopsided pairing the Terps have gotten in the 11 years of the competition, so expect Maryland to roll in this one.
What to watch for the Cavaliers: Defense
Like all good Virginia teams, the Cavaliers make up for their lack of offensive firepower with stops on the defensive end. While Maryland is scoring 88.6 points per game this season, Virginia is allowing only 62.3. If the Cavaliers defense can force the Terps into one of their patented slow starts, this one could be close.
