What to watch for the Terps: Perimeter shooting

Against Stony Brook on Friday, Maryland was an ice-cold 2-for-14 shooting threes. The Terps followed up that rough performance with a much more respectable 9-for-19 when they returned home to Xfinity Center on Sunday against UMES.

Dion Wiley has gotten off to a promising start, knocking down 44.4 percent of his 3-pointers through Maryland’s first two games. Meanwhile, Jared Nickens went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc in a hot shooting performance against UMES. Maryland would greatly benefit from Wiley and Nickens continuing to hit threes facing Butler.

What to watch for the Bulldogs: Kelan Martin

Martin was Butler’s leading scorer on its Sweet 16 squad last season. The power forward averaged 16 points per game, 14.4 when facing Big East foes. He knocked down 42.8 percent of his field goals last year, shooting 34.8 on threes, and picked up 5.8 rebounds per game.

Martin is very likely going to get the ball a lot. Through the Bulldogs’ two wins this year, he’s grabbed 23 total boards — including a career-high 14 against Princeton on Sunday — and scored 40 points. Whether Maryland can stop him will go a long way to determining who wins on Wednesday.
